As we enter the digital era, enterprises increasingly adopt multi-cloud strategies to meet their unique business requirements. According to an Asia Pacific study commissioned by Oracle almost every cloud journey is now a multi-cloud journey. The COVID-19 pandemic has also significantly driven greater interest and investment in cloud technology in Asia Pacific.
The Enterprise Cloud
Enterprises are no longer seeking a “one-stop-shop” approach to cloud solutions. Instead, they are embracing multi-cloud environments to access the right mix of solutions and capabilities for effective operations. Key findings from the study include:
The majority of cloud journeys are multi-cloud.
- 97% of Asia Pacific enterprises surveyed use or plan to use at least two cloud infrastructure providers, and 35% use four or more.
- 95% of respondents use or plan to use at least two cloud application providers (Software-as-a-Service), with over 48% using cloud applications from five or more providers.
Data sovereignty and cost optimization drive multi-cloud strategies.
- The top two drivers of multi-cloud strategies are data sovereignty (44%) and cost optimization (40%).
- Other drivers include business agility and innovation (32%), best-of-breed cloud services and applications (27%), and concerns about cloud vendor lock-in (26%).
Enterprises are proactively planning multi-cloud strategies for the future.
- Data redundancy (56%) is the most anticipated future use case, followed by data mobility (52%) and cost optimization across public clouds (45%).
- IT departments also plan to use multi-cloud strategies for risk mitigation for the entire IT environment (41%) and geographic expansion or global service delivery (44%).
In conclusion
Embracing multi-cloud strategies is the future of enterprise technology. The multi-cloud allows organizations to benefit from increased flexibility, scalability, and access to the best solutions for their unique requirements.
